High-Pressure Electrolyzer for Regenerative Fuel Cell Systems
Giner’s liquid anode feed high-pressure electrolyzer was designed to operate at pressures up to 2,500 psi to generate hydrogen and oxygen for regenerative fuel cell systems. Water recovered from fuel cell operation is electrolyzed by the stack during the recharge mode of the system using solar power. The high-pressure gas generation supports storage without the use of a mechanical compressor for eventual operation of the system in fuel cell discharge mode. The lightweight design is optimized for aerospace applications and operation in vacuum environments. Two prototype stacks have been built and tested for over 500 hours each of operation successfully to date.
